Lögberg-Heimskringla · Föstudagur 6 September 2002 ... View! Our final restaurant visit was at the famous Perlan, or "the Pearl", as we say in Western Icelandic! This innovative water storage complex houses a revolving restaurant that surprised us with unique views of Reykjavík as well as sightlines to mountain ranges on the coastline! And, we were here on a record-breaking day: 21C, sunny and clear. We were so taken by the view that we weren't concentrating much on the food that was about to delight us, but when it came, the presentation was typical of what we have come to expect in these excellent Icelandic restaurants. Icelandic chefs are higly competitive in their field and noted award winners. All three of our restaurant meals were masterpieces of creativity and presentation. At Perlan, the appetizers set the tone. Lobster soup, duck pâté, and salad, presented by waiters dressed in toxedos. Then came the yoghurt and blueberry palate cleanser. Of course, we had to have lamb for the main course, even though we battled eating so innocent a creature as a lamb. One bite of the juicy, tender meat made us forget our conciences, and we now know why it is an Icelandic speciality! The Pearl is a worthy place to visit, even for coffee and dessert we think, especially on a nice day!! Juliann Whitney, Windsror, ON |
